The Indian Navy has been actively exploring options to upgrade its carrier-based fighter jet fleet. Among the most ambitious proposals was the possible procurement of the F-35B Lightning II, Lockheed Martin’s fifth-generation stealth aircraft with short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) capabilities. Its ability to operate from smaller flight decks, similar to helicopters, made it an appealing candidate to succeed the aging Sea Harriers and complement the Navy’s current MiG-29K fighters, offering enhanced combat performance and operational versatility.
