Babcock International has been awarded a contract to maintain portable field power generators used by the British Army during deployments and training operations. The agreement could last up to eight years and is valued at approximately 36 million pounds. Under the contract, Babcock will conduct maintenance, repair, and overhaul services for the army’s generator fleet. The company will also oversee the lifecycle management of the equipment using specialized asset management systems designed to maintain reliability and availability across operational units. Engineering and technical teams based at three locations across the United Kingdom will carry out the work, and the project is expected to create around 20 new jobs. The generators are known as Field Electrical Power Supplies and play a critical role in military operations by providing electricity for deployed forces in environments where fixed power networks are unavailable. These systems are commonly used to power communications systems, lighting equipment, command infrastructure, and other operational technologies necessary to sustain field missions. Modern military operations depend heavily on digital communication networks, command-and-control systems, and surveillance equipment, all of which require reliable electricity. Portable generators therefore remain essential for maintaining operational readiness in remote areas or temporary bases. The British Army deploys these power systems to support forward operating locations, mobile command posts, and training environments where stable electricity is required. Babcock already supports the British Army through long-term maintenance arrangements for vehicles and other operational equipment. The company provides engineering support and asset management services for several military platforms across the UK armed forces. In addition to its land systems support work, the company is also involved in naval shipbuilding programs and military training services.
