Lockheed Martin has delivered the Brazilian Army’s first UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter, marking the initial shipment under a 12-aircraft procurement agreement signed in 2024. The handover represents a key step in Brazil’s ongoing efforts to modernize its rotary-wing fleet and strengthen airborne capabilities amid growing demands for tactical mobility and humanitarian operations.

The UH-60M fleet is expected to support a wide range of missions, including troop transport, medical evacuation, disaster relief, emergency response, and search-and-rescue operations. According to Lockheed Martin, the delivery reflects more than two decades of defense cooperation between Sikorsky—developer of the Black Hawk—and Brazil, which first introduced the platform into service in 1997.

The latest helicopter also improves interoperability across Brazil’s armed forces, complementing the UH-60L Black Hawks currently operated by the Brazilian Air Force. Sikorsky has continued to provide long-term maintenance and sustainment support to ensure fleet readiness and operational availability across the country’s diverse mission profiles.

Technically, the UH-60M measures 64 feet (20 meters) in length and can carry up to 11 troops, with an internal payload capacity of 3,190 pounds and external lift capability of nearly 9,000 pounds. Powered by twin GE T700-GE-701C/D engines, the helicopter reaches speeds of 160 knots, operates up to 19,000 feet, and has a range of 1,200 nautical miles, while supporting a wide array of weapons, including machine guns, rockets, and guided missiles.
