DARPA and Serco have finalized the construction of the first prototype under the No Manning Required Ship (NOMARS) program. Designed to operate entirely without crew or onboard mission systems, the unmanned surface vessel—named “USX Defiant”—will serve as a test platform for autonomous logistics operations for the US Navy. It is now set to undergo a series of complex trials both dockside and at sea.
