Israel-based Elbit Systems has secured new defense contracts valued at approximately $150 million to equip aircraft operated by multiple European customers with its J-MUSIC Directed Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM) self-protection system. The deals reinforce Elbit’s growing footprint in Europe’s airborne survivability market.

Under the first agreement, Elbit will deliver the J-MUSIC DIRCM suite for installation on high-value airborne platforms operated by an undisclosed European nation. Additional contracts cover transport aircraft fleets of European NATO member states, strengthening protection for aircraft conducting strategic airlift and special missions in contested environments.

The latest awards follow a major $260-million contract signed with Airbus Defence and Space in July, under which Elbit is supplying DIRCM systems for the German Air Force’s A400M transport aircraft. Together, these programs highlight increasing European demand for advanced countermeasures amid evolving missile threats.

Elbit’s J-MUSIC DIRCM is designed to defeat infrared-guided missiles, including man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS) that pose a serious risk to transport aircraft, tankers, intelligence platforms, and VIP aircraft. The system integrates advanced laser technology and high-performance imaging sensors, offering comprehensive protection against a wide range of heat-seeking threats. Its lightweight, modular architecture supports installation across diverse aircraft types and enables seamless integration with multiple missile warning systems.
