Embraer has pitched a new solution for the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) program, which seeks 60 aircraft. The company has offered an upgraded version of its C-390M Millennium that features wing-mounted hardpoints for air-to-surface weapons, making it suitable for both transport and combat missions. This armed variant could perform strike roles against land and naval targets using weapons like the Rudram-II air-to-surface missile and NASM-MR anti-ship missiles. Embraer also proposes turning the C-390M into a launch platform for air-deployed drones, aligning with India’s growing interest in swarm drone operations and next-generation air warfare.
