Aerostar, a premier Lockheed Martin-authorized maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) center, has successfully completed its first Phase Maintenance Inspection (PMI) on a Black Hawk® helicopter for Romania’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI). Delivered ahead of schedule, this milestone showcases Aerostar’s highly skilled team and its strong commitment to supporting the operational readiness of the Romanian MAI’s helicopter fleet.
Previously, Black Hawk operators in Romania had to carry out such inspections at their own bases. With Aerostar now providing this service, operators can dedicate more time to daily maintenance and operations, improving the overall availability of their aircraft.
This successful first inspection marks a significant achievement for Aerostar, which has already started work on a second helicopter. The MAI’s Black Hawk fleet undertakes vital missions, including search and rescue on land and at sea, firefighting, medical evacuations, and transport operations.
The Sikorsky S-70M Black Hawk, built to meet stringent military requirements, is a versatile platform capable of handling the demanding long-range, high-altitude missions needed by the Romanian MAI. In 2024, Sikorsky secured a contract to deliver another Black Hawk helicopter to the Ministry, expanding the fleet to eight. These helicopters, produced at Lockheed Martin’s PZL Mielec facility in Poland, play a key role in addressing both civil and defense needs across Europe and globally.
