Belgium has taken a significant step in enhancing its tactical airlift capabilities by awarding Textron Aviation a contract to procure five Cessna SkyCourier aircraft. This marks the platform’s first confirmed military order, highlighting growing defense interest in versatile, cost-effective transport solutions. Deliveries are scheduled throughout 2027 and will be managed through Sabena Engineering, which will oversee mission-specific modifications, certification, and final integration before transferring the aircraft to Belgium’s Special Operations Forces. Designed for operational flexibility, the SkyCourier can perform in austere environments, including short and unprepared runways. It is equipped with advanced avionics such as the Garmin G1000 NXi system and powered by twin Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-65SC engines paired with McCauley propellers. With a cruise speed exceeding 200 KTAS and a range of up to 900 nautical miles, the aircraft supports rapid deployment missions. Its dual configuration—freighter and passenger—allows payload capacities of up to 6,000 pounds or 19 personnel, making it suitable for logistics, medical evacuation, and crisis response.
