The US Navy has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat a $15.38 billion contract modification to support the Columbia-class submarine program. These nuclear-powered submarines will replace the aging Ohio-class fleet and maintain the US nuclear deterrence capability. Despite delays due to supply chain and technical challenges, the lead submarine is expected by 2028, with full production by 2031.
