The Indian Air Force is extending the operational life of its aging Ilyushin Il-76 fleet amid delays in acquiring new transport aircraft. With fleet strength reduced due to maintenance challenges and spare parts shortages exacerbated by the Russia–Ukraine War, the IAF is adopting indigenous maintenance solutions. Planned upgrades include engine replacement with PS-90A-76 engines, glass cockpit integration, and structural life extension to potentially 2050.
