The U.S.-based L3Harris Technologies has entered into a strategic defense partnership with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) to jointly develop a sophisticated new light-attack and intelligence aircraft named Blue Sky Warden. This initiative underscores the growing emphasis on cost-effective, long-endurance air platforms capable of operating in modern multi-domain environments. The collaboration aligns with both nations’ efforts to deepen defense cooperation and integrate battlefield innovation.
The Blue Sky Warden will be a specialized, tailor-made variant of L3Harris’ acclaimed Sky Warden platform, specifically engineered to meet Israel’s defense and operational needs. Leveraging the proven design of the OA-1K Skyraider II, which is currently entering service with the U.S. Special Operations Command, the aircraft is expected to blend next-generation intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities with precise strike performance for complex mission scenarios.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two companies, both sides will collaborate on technology integration, co-development frameworks, and mission system customization. The partnership is set to enable Israel to further expand its aerial defense capabilities while creating new pathways for joint technological innovation. The Blue Sky Warden is anticipated to become a multi-role, export-friendly solution marking the next stage in allied airpower development.
