
The Italian Navy has officially received the multi-role frigate Emilio Bianchi, developed under the Italy–France defense partnership and coordinated by OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation).
Constructed at Fincantieri’s shipyards in Riva Trigoso and Muggiano, the warship is equipped with systems from leading European defense firms, including Leonardo, MBDA, and Elettronica. The vessel spans 144.6 meters in length, with a beam of 19.7 meters and a full displacement of approximately 6,700 tons.
Powered by a combined diesel-electric and gas turbine propulsion system, the Emilio Bianchi can reach speeds exceeding 27 knots. At a cruising speed of 15 knots, it boasts a maximum range of around 6,000 nautical miles.
Key onboard systems include the Kronos Grand Naval AESA radar, integrated sonar suite, Aster missiles, a 127mm naval gun, and torpedo launchers. The frigate also features a flight deck and hangar for one NH90 helicopter, enhancing its mission versatility.
