L3Harris has been awarded a $300-million contract to deliver two Gulfstream G550 aircraft, specially modified to conduct electromagnetic warfare operations, to the Italian Air Force. These advanced jets will provide Italy with long-range airborne jamming capabilities, enabling them to disrupt enemy radar systems, communications networks, and navigation technologies effectively. By degrading adversaries’ situational awareness and command functions, these aircraft significantly enhance Italy’s ability to operate in contested electronic battlefields.

The upgraded G550s will become integral components of Italy’s special mission fleet, joining sophisticated platforms like the Joint Airborne Multi-Mission Multi-Sensor System (JAMMS). JAMMS itself is a versatile system designed for multi-domain surveillance and electronic warfare missions. This addition expands Italy’s capabilities in electronic attack and defense, enabling a comprehensive approach to modern warfare that blends intelligence gathering with active electronic disruption.

L3Harris operates a wide range of similar multi-mission aircraft programs internationally, supporting allies such as the United States, Australia, Canada, Japan, and South Korea. The company’s portfolio includes platforms equipped for signals intelligence, electronic surveillance, and electronic attack, reflecting its prominent position in the high-end defense electronics market. This contract reinforces L3Harris’s ongoing role in equipping allied air forces with cutting-edge electronic warfare solutions.
