Japan has signed a contract with Kawasaki Heavy Industries to manufacture 17 CH-47 Chinook helicopters for the Self-Defense Forces. The order includes five CH-47J standard models for 71.4 billion yen ($458.1 million) and twelve extended-range CH-47JA variants for 161.1 billion yen ($1 billion), aimed at strengthening the country’s heavy-lift transport fleet.
