Lockheed Martin has delivered the second shipset of the AN/SPY-7(V)1 radar system intended for Japan’s Aegis System Equipped Vessels. Before the radar package is transported to Japan, it will undergo complete system integration and testing at Lockheed Martin’s facilities to ensure proper performance and compatibility with the vessel’s combat architecture. This step is designed to minimize integration risks and help maintain the project’s timeline. The delivery follows the first radar shipset handed over in June 2025 and supports Japan’s plan to commission the two ASEV warships in 2027 and 2028. The delivery was conducted through a Direct Commercial Sale framework facilitated by Mitsubishi Corporation. The radar will be a key element of the ship’s missile defense capability.
