Kazakhstan has taken a major step toward modernizing its armed forces with the launch of a new artificial intelligence unit under the Ministry of Defense. The unit’s creation marks the country’s entry into an era of AI-driven defense.

This dedicated structure will spearhead the digital transformation of the military, developing and integrating AI-based solutions for a wide range of missions. From battlefield decision-making to operational support, AI will play a central role in enhancing efficiency and effectiveness.

The move reflects the vision of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who has urged the rapid digitization of defense systems with AI integration. His directive highlights the importance of technological adoption to strengthen Kazakhstan’s security posture.

Deputy Defense Minister Darkhan Akhmediev confirmed the initiative, emphasizing that the new unit is a direct response to the president’s call for innovation. The defense ministry expects the AI team to not only transform existing capabilities but also build a foundation for future-oriented military operations.
