Rolls-Royce will deliver its MT30 marine gas turbines and related propulsion solutions to power South Korea’s Ulsan-class frigates, following their selection by the Republic of Korea Navy.

The propulsion suite includes diesel generators, electric motors, and controllable pitch propellers tailored for integration across six new frigates under a $3 billion program.

The frigates’ electric motors, developed jointly with STX-Engines, will be engaged during normal cruising speeds. For more intensive operations, the MT30 turbine will activate to provide additional thrust. Construction of the first two ships is underway at Hanwha Ocean’s shipyard
