Korean Air has teamed up with defense firm LIG Nex1 to compete in South Korea’s Block-I electronic warfare (EW) aircraft program, a 1.78-trillion-won ($1.31 billion) initiative to develop the nation’s first indigenous electronic attack aircraft.

The joint proposal, scheduled for submission in early September, will center on a modified mid-sized civilian aircraft equipped to detect and analyze enemy signals. The platform will also possess the capability to disrupt adversary air defense and command networks during combat operations.

Under the partnership, Korean Air will oversee airframe modification, system integration, and production, while LIG Nex1 will be responsible for the design and installation of advanced electronic warfare systems.

If successful, the program will mark a significant step for South Korea in advancing its self-reliant defense technology and enhancing capabilities against growing regional threats.
