US defense contractor L3Harris and Italy’s ELT Group have partnered to create the first intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) multi-sensor test center in Italy, marking the facility as the first of its kind outside the United States. This new center aims to strengthen the defense capabilities and operational readiness of Italy and its allies. It will provide vital support for advanced programs such as the Joint Airborne Multi-Mission Multi-Sensor System (JAMMS) and the EA-37B Compass Call electronic warfare aircraft, both utilizing the Gulfstream G550 platform.

In a related development, Italy recently awarded L3Harris a $300 million contract to supply two Gulfstream G550 jets outfitted with state-of-the-art electromagnetic warfare systems. This program is notable as it marks the first-ever approval by the US government to sell the EA-37B Compass Call electronic attack aircraft to a foreign ally. L3Harris is working closely with BAE Systems to deliver the advanced capabilities, enhancing Italy’s strategic defense position within the region.
