L3Harris Technologies has been awarded a contract to upgrade several C-130 transport aircraft belonging to the Royal Moroccan Air Force. The modernization effort will encompass a range of enhancements, including comprehensive avionics upgrades, engine overhauls, depot-level maintenance, and additional support services aimed at boosting fleet readiness.
The goal of this initiative is to improve the operational capability and mission readiness of Morocco’s C-130 fleet, enabling better support for key missions such as tactical airlift, humanitarian assistance, and special operations. Work on the aircraft is scheduled to commence this year at L3Harris’ facility in Waco, Texas, and will continue through 2029.
The C-130 is a versatile tactical aircraft designed for rough terrain and unprepared runways. Its modular structure supports various configurations for diverse mission requirements, including the transport of troops, equipment, vehicles, and even helicopters. The aircraft’s rear ramp allows for airdrop operations of up to 42,000 pounds (approximately 19,000 kilograms), and its high-flotation landing gear enables takeoff and landing on challenging surfaces like dirt strips.
