Lithuania has signed a landmark contract to purchase two multi-role attack boats from Finnish shipbuilder Marine Alutech Oy Ab, in a joint procurement arrangement with Latvia. The €22 million ($24 million) deal will see both vessels delivered for operation by the Lithuanian Navy’s Coastal Defense Battalion.

These boats are designed to perform a variety of tasks—including patrol, surveillance, and force deployment—along the Lithuanian coastline, stretching from the Gulf of Finland to the Curonian Lagoon near Russia’s border. Their addition will bolster maritime domain awareness and enhance Lithuania’s responsiveness to evolving regional security dynamics.

By leveraging joint defense acquisitions, Lithuania and Latvia improve cost-efficiency, logistics harmonization, and mutual naval capabilities, reinforcing collective stability within the Baltic Sea region.
