Lockheed Martin has entered into a strategic teaming agreement with Virginia-based IT services company MANTECH to modernize how the US military sustains and supports its combat aircraft fleet using advanced artificial intelligence technologies. The partnership aims to reshape aircraft maintenance and logistics by embedding AI-driven decision-making across sustainment operations.
Under the agreement, the two companies will focus on real-time aircraft performance monitoring, predictive maintenance, and intelligent logistics planning. By continuously analyzing operational data generated by military aircraft, the AI-enabled system is designed to identify potential issues before failures occur, helping commanders maintain higher aircraft availability.
Security and data protection are central to the initiative, with both firms emphasizing the integration of defense-grade cybersecurity measures throughout the system architecture. This approach ensures sensitive mission and aircraft data remains protected while enabling advanced analytics in contested and classified environments.
By reducing unplanned maintenance and streamlining sustainment workflows, the Lockheed Martin–MANTECH collaboration is expected to cut aircraft downtime, extend platform service life, and improve overall mission readiness. The effort supports broader US Department of Defense goals to leverage AI for more resilient, cost-effective, and responsive military aviation operations.
