Indian defense major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has partnered with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to push forward the nation’s next-generation fighter jet initiative. The collaboration represents a significant step in India’s long-standing ambition to develop an indigenous fifth-generation combat aircraft that can compete with global platforms.

L&T, known for its capabilities in aerospace manufacturing, will bring its platform-building expertise to the table, while BEL is expected to contribute through its deep knowledge in defense electronics and avionics. Together, the two companies aim to deliver an advanced combat aircraft system that integrates cutting-edge sensors, avionics, and electronic warfare capabilities.

The fighter jet project falls under the Advanced Multirole Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program, spearheaded by India’s Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA). The AMCA is designed to provide the Indian Air Force with a stealthy, supersonic aircraft capable of both air dominance and ground attack roles.

According to defense sources, the L&T–BEL consortium is preparing a joint bid in response to ADA’s upcoming request. If successful, this partnership could establish a stronger private-public collaboration in India’s defense manufacturing sector, while also advancing the country’s goal of greater self-reliance in high-end aerospace technology.
