Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has launched the JS Akashi (AGS-5107), a modern oceanographic research ship for Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Force.
The vessel is designed for marine surveillance, including studies of underwater terrain, water conditions, and oceanic materials, enhancing defense preparedness and research.
The ship takes its name from Akashi, a prominent defense industry location during World War II, especially known for aircraft production.
