Morocco has finalized a purchase of 10 H225M helicopters from Airbus Helicopters to modernize its combat search and rescue fleet. The Royal Moroccan Air Force will deploy the new aircraft for high-risk missions, replacing its long-serving Puma helicopters. While the support and service package is included in the contract, Airbus and Morocco have not yet disclosed the total value or delivery schedule.

The upgraded aircraft will come equipped with dual hoists, a powerful searchlight, and the Safran Euroflir 410 electro-optical sensor for enhanced detection and tracking. Each helicopter will also feature machine-gun armaments and an electronic warfare self-protection suite, enabling crews to operate in contested environments with improved survivability.

Designed for multi-mission roles, the H225M can conduct combat search and rescue, special operations, troop transport, and medical evacuation. Powered by two Safran Makila 2A1 engines, it reaches a maximum speed of 324 kilometers per hour and cruises comfortably at 262 kilometers per hour. The helicopter’s shipborne capability, all-weather performance, and night-vision compatibility make it suitable for both maritime and land-based missions.

With standard internal fuel, the H225M offers a 920-kilometer range, which extends to 1,253 kilometers with additional tanks. The platform can remain airborne for up to 4 hours and 30 minutes, carrying as many as 31 personnel. Its maximum takeoff weight stands at 11,000 kilograms—or 11,200 kilograms when operating with an external load—making it one of the most capable multirole helicopters in its class.
