Airbus has received a contract to deliver two additional A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft to NATO, with handovers scheduled for 2028 and 2029. This addition will increase the alliance’s aerial refueling and transport fleet to a total of 12 aircraft.
The order coincides with Sweden and Denmark joining NATO’s Multinational MRTT Fleet (MMF) program, which is coordinated by the alliance’s Support and Procurement Agency. The program enables participating nations to share access to heavy airlift capabilities. With the inclusion of these two countries, the MMF now comprises eight member nations.
Airbus confirmed that assembly and conversion work on the new aircraft will take place at its facilities in Toulouse, France, and Getafe, Spain.
