In a key milestone for Spain’s defense modernization, Airbus Helicopters has delivered two NH90 Tactical Transport Helicopters to the Spanish Navy. These are the first units delivered out of a seven-helicopter procurement, falling under phase two of the nation’s NH90 program, which aims to field a total of 23 helicopters.
The NH90 MSPT version includes naval-specific upgrades like corrosion-resistant components, ship-compatible communication gear, and rotor systems that can be automatically folded for onboard hangar storage. With space for 20 soldiers or a lightweight vehicle, the helicopter also offers low-visibility operational capacity and is suited for single-pilot missions. The delivery means the NH90 now serves across all branches of the Spanish military. The initiative follows a recent agreement under Spain’s National Helicopter Plan, furthering collaboration between the Ministry of Defense and Airbus.
