Northrop Grumman has successfully deployed its first Airborne Laser Mine Detection System (ALMDS) to South Korea to enhance naval mine countermeasure capabilities. The system, mounted on the Korean Mine Countermeasures Helicopter, uses lasers and advanced sensors to detect floating and near-surface mines, allowing rapid area scanning without ship-based support. Developed in partnership with Korea Aerospace Industries, the ALMDS will increase operational efficiency in both littoral and deep-sea environments. Northrop’s technology is already fielded with the U.S. Navy and Japan, improving detection speed and accuracy, and is expected to strengthen allied maritime defense operations in the Indo-Pacific region.
