South Korea’s HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has partnered with Peru’s state-owned shipbuilder SIMA to co-design a 1,500-ton submarine for the Peruvian Navy. Based on the HDS-1500 model, the new sub is part of Peru’s initiative to modernize its naval fleet and replace older submarines with a more capable medium-sized vessel.
