Rheinmetall UK has secured a contract to integrate its Trailblazer Driver Vision and Local Situational Awareness System into the British Army’s M270 A2 Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) fleet. The agreement, valued in the mid-single-digit millions of euros, will enhance crew visibility and operational effectiveness across the upgraded rocket artillery platform.
Under the program, prototype systems are scheduled for delivery in early 2026, followed by full-rate production later the same year. Trailblazer delivers a combination of daylight, thermal, and fused imaging, providing drivers and commanders with improved awareness for terrain navigation, obstacle avoidance, route planning, and threat detection in low-light, obscured, and adverse weather conditions.
Rheinmetall UK will supply a comprehensive integration package, including driver vision sensors, remote side and rear cameras, installation hardware, hardened cabling, control switches, and protective covers. The system has already been adopted by seven countries, offering a standardized vision solution across a wide range of armored and combat support vehicles.
The M270 A2 upgrade marks the 17th military platform to be equipped with Trailblazer, reinforcing Rheinmetall UK’s growing role as a key provider of advanced vehicle vision and situational awareness technologies for the British Army. The system is already fielded on platforms such as the Challenger 3 main battle tank, Boxer Mechanised Infantry Vehicle, and Warrior infantry fighting vehicle, supporting fleet-wide standardization and improved crew survivability.
