Saab has secured a new contract from an undisclosed European NATO member for its Sirius passive sensor system, strengthening the company’s position in the growing signals intelligence and surveillance market. The order, valued at approximately €130 million ($153 million), includes the delivery of the Sirius system along with related services, with fulfillment scheduled to continue through 2030.

The Sirius system combines communications intelligence (COMINT) and electronic intelligence (ELINT) sensors to deliver both tactical situational awareness and long-term strategic intelligence. Designed for multi-domain operations, Sirius can be deployed across air, land, and maritime platforms, supporting joint SIGINT missions and integrated surveillance operations in complex operational environments.

Saab has also been expanding its manufacturing capacity to meet rising demand for advanced passive sensing technologies. Earlier this year, the company announced plans to establish a new production facility in Finland dedicated to the Sirius Compact variant. This smaller, modular system is optimized for tactical use and rapid integration on a wide range of platforms, offering greater flexibility for frontline and expeditionary forces.

Sirius is engineered to operate covertly, detecting and analyzing radar and communications signals across the radio frequency spectrum with high sensitivity and precision. Its scalable architecture supports modular deployments, geographically distributed sensor networks, and integration with third-party systems through open interfaces. Automated data processing and fusion tools enable efficient analysis and dissemination, allowing operators to sustain persistent surveillance operations with minimal personnel.
