L3Harris and Air Tractor have completed the first delivery of the OA-1K Skyraider II to the United States Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC). This upgraded aircraft is tailored for the demanding needs of Special Operations Forces (SOF), providing a suite of capabilities that includes close air support, surgical precision strikes, and armed intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) operations. The Skyraider II’s adaptable configuration allows SOF units to engage various mission sets vital to the U.S. National Defense Strategy.

What sets the Skyraider II apart is its rugged construction, which enables reliable operations from austere and remote locations—where traditional aircraft may be unable to function. Its ability to launch and recover in challenging environments significantly expands the operational reach of special mission teams. The integration of advanced avionics and weapons systems supports a rapid response to fluid tactical situations, empowering SOF to counter adversaries in both conventional and irregular warfare settings.

The innovative design of this aircraft ensures high readiness rates and offers modular payload options, making it suitable for dynamic force deployments. Its introduction marks a forward step in enhancing the U.S. Air Force’s arsenal for specialized, high-impact missions where flexibility, survivability, and persistent overwatch are paramount.
