Two new F-16 Viper multirole fighter jets have been delivered to the Slovak Air Force under an extended U.S. Foreign Military Sales (FMS) agreement signed in 2019, bringing Bratislava’s active fleet to five aircraft. The delivery is part of Slovakia’s ongoing procurement of 14 F-16 Block 70 platforms.

The handover was conducted via a two-leg transatlantic flight and coincided with a similar delivery event for Bulgaria’s first Viper aircraft. The Vipers are equipped with advanced AESA radar, digital flight controls, and enhanced self-defense suites, marking a leap in Slovakia’s air combat capabilities.

These jets are expected to improve NATO interoperability, contribute to air policing efforts over central Europe, and replace outdated MiG-29s with precision-guided interoperability in regional deterrence missions.
