Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) has officially unveiled its Freedom Trainer jet, which will compete in the US Navy’s Undergraduate Jet Training System program. The aircraft is positioned as SNC’s answer to the Navy’s need for a modern and advanced training platform.
Developed as a clean-sheet design, the Freedom is distinguished by its capability to perform carrier deck touch-and-go operations and Field Carrier Landing Practice (FCLP) down to full touchdown. This sets it apart from existing trainer aircraft, which lack this early-stage capability.
The jet allows student naval aviators to rehearse demanding deck landings earlier in their training cycle. By providing access to realistic carrier approach practice sooner, the Freedom aims to streamline pilot development and better prepare aviators for fleet operations.
This capability could make the Freedom Trainer a strategic advantage for the Navy’s training pipeline, ensuring that aviators enter advanced stages with stronger foundational carrier landing skills
