Hanwha Aerospace has secured a contract valued at 623.2 billion Korean won ($460.7 million) to supply propulsion systems for South Korea’s KF-21 Boramae fifth-generation fighter program. Under this agreement, the company will manufacture 80 General Electric F414 engines domestically under license.

The contract includes logistics support, sustainment partners, and on-site technical assistance. Engine deliveries to South Korea’s defense acquisition agency are expected by December 2028. This brings the total investment in KF-21 propulsion systems to 1.18 trillion won ($872.7 million), with over 60 aircraft now set to be equipped.

The KF-21 program, launched to replace older F-4 and F-5 aircraft, is being led by Korea Aerospace Industries with plans to produce 120 fighters by the early 2030s. The first production batch of around 20 aircraft is scheduled for delivery between 2026 and 2027.
