South Korea has reached a tentative agreement to transfer one KF-21 Boramae prototype to Indonesia as part of revised cost-sharing arrangements in their joint development program. Valued at approximately $406 million, the deal includes a single-seat prototype and adjustments to financial contributions. The KF-21 program, initiated in 2015, represents South Korea’s first domestically developed supersonic fighter jet, aimed at replacing legacy F-4 and F-5 aircraft by 2030. Financial challenges arose when Indonesia reduced its contributions, leading to renegotiations and modified terms, including reduced technology transfer. Despite these issues, the program has progressed, with prototypes successfully tested and mass production initiated in 2024. The agreement underscores continued cooperation between the two nations while positioning the KF-21 as a potential export platform in the global defense market.
