Thales has achieved a major milestone by securing its first international export deal for its land-based High-Frequency XL (HF XL) TRC 3900 radio systems. The agreement, signed with Malaysian defense firm Advanced Defence Systems, includes the supply of more than 100 vehicle-mounted stations equipped with radios, amplifiers, and antennas.
The HF XL TRC 3900 is built to provide resilient and high-data-rate communications, significantly enhancing Malaysia’s military connectivity in both urban centers and remote regions. According to Thales, the system delivers up to ten times the data transfer capacity of standard HF radios. This capability supports secure communications, even in areas where satellite coverage is limited or unavailable.
The system is also resistant to electronic jamming, ensuring reliable performance in contested environments. It allows the transmission of large files, such as images and videos, while maintaining low operating costs. Thales has been a trusted partner to the Malaysian Army for more than 25 years, supplying over 10,000 radios during that time.
The TRC 3900 HF XL range includes a variety of configurations, such as 20-watt manpack radios with ranges up to 1,000 kilometers. For longer-range operations, the system offers 400-watt and 1-kilowatt variants, enabling communication between command posts, headquarters, and deployed forces across distances as great as 5,000 kilometers. This adaptability makes it a key enabler of Malaysia’s defense modernization goals.
