The U.S. Navy received its newest Virginia-class attack submarine, the future USS Iowa (SSN 797), on December 22, 2024. This marks the Navy’s 12th battle force ship delivery in 2024. SSN 797 is the 24th Virginia-class submarine built under the long-term collaboration between General Dynamics Electric Boat (GDEB) and HII-Newport News Shipbuilding, and it is the 13th attack submarine handed over by GDEB.
