The United Kingdom has finalized a landmark agreement with NATO ally Turkey for the sale of Eurofighter Typhoon jets, marking one of the largest defense export deals in recent years. Signed by the British Prime Minister, the 10-year agreement is valued at nearly $11 billion and covers the delivery of 20 advanced Eurofighter aircraft.
The UK Ministry of Defence hailed the deal as the “biggest fighter jet order in a generation,” emphasizing its significance in enhancing Turkey’s air combat capabilities and reinforcing collective NATO strength across the strategic southeastern flank. The Eurofighter Typhoon, a multirole combat aircraft co-developed by the UK, Germany, Italy, and Spain, is designed to deliver superior performance in both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions.
Officials noted that the agreement is not only a major boost for defense cooperation between London and Ankara but also a win for the British aerospace industry. The order is expected to sustain over 20,000 jobs across the UK’s defense sector, particularly benefiting companies involved in aircraft production and systems integration. The deal also includes an option for additional Eurofighter units in the coming years, deepening long-term industrial collaboration.
British defense leaders highlighted that the sale will “bolster security across NATO”, further solidifying Europe’s defense network amid evolving global threats. Turkey’s acquisition of the Eurofighter will modernize its air fleet and expand interoperability with allied air forces, strengthening the alliance’s collective deterrence posture.
