The U.S. Missile Defense Agency has received its first AN/TPY-2 radar upgraded with Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology, enhancing its ability to detect and track ballistic missiles more effectively. Developed by Raytheon, this advanced version offers increased sensitivity, longer detection range, and enhanced surveillance—particularly useful for countering hypersonic threats. It features CX6 high-performance computing software for precise target recognition and resistance to electronic warfare. Operating in the X-band, it can distinguish real threats from decoys. This marks the first GaN-equipped radar and the 13th AN/TPY-2 delivered to the U.S. government.
