In a significant advancement for the U.S. Navy’s fleet readiness, L3Harris Technologies has officially delivered its first fully overhauled P-8A Poseidon aircraft to the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR). The aircraft was upgraded at the company’s Waco, Texas site, where the company began depot-level maintenance and modernization efforts earlier this year. The overall program is set to run until September 2029, ensuring sustained support for the Navy’s long-term operational needs.

The delivery is part of a multi-year contract awarded on September 30, 2024, which includes comprehensive support for 139 P-8A aircraft. The scope of work includes structural repairs, avionics enhancements, component refurbishment, and functional testing—all essential to extending the life and mission readiness of this versatile fleet.

The P-8A Poseidon, a key asset in long-range maritime operations, supports anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare as well as ISR missions. This contract is central to the Navy’s efforts to maintain a high operational tempo, while preparing aircraft for evolving global threats. In addition to serving the U.S. Navy, L3Harris is also contracted to provide overhaul services for P-8As sold to foreign allied militaries.

Currently, seven aircraft are undergoing maintenance, with a total of nine scheduled for induction during the contract’s first year. All active units are on track for delivery by the end of the year, reflecting L3Harris’s role in enhancing U.S. and allied maritime surveillance capabilities.
