The US House of Representatives has authorized $10 million to support the development of a new radar program at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. The project will advance CHAOS Industries’ ASTRIA system, a mobile radar platform designed to track numerous objects simultaneously during testing and training exercises.
ASTRIA incorporates “coherent distributed networking,” an innovative approach that connects several smaller, low-cost radar sensors into one integrated system. This method offers a cost-effective alternative to conventional radar units, which are typically expensive and limited to single-point coverage.
According to the California-based developer, the ASTRIA network grows stronger as more nodes are added, expanding both accuracy and range. This scalability enables the radar to monitor larger areas with improved precision, adapting to evolving mission needs.
Once operational, the system is expected to deliver enhanced training realism for pilots. By simulating advanced air and missile threats, the radar will help prepare aircrews for modern combat environments, strengthening US readiness amid increasing global security challenges.
