The US Army has awarded Swedish defense manufacturer Saab a contract valued at approximately $46 million to deliver an undisclosed number of Giraffe 1X radar systems. The agreement, finalized under a foreign military assistance framework, is part of ongoing efforts to bolster the capabilities of security cooperation partners across multiple regions. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2026, marking another milestone in Saab’s expanding relationship with the US defense sector.

The Giraffe 1X radar is a compact, lightweight 3D surveillance system weighing under 150 kilograms (330 pounds), designed for rapid deployment and flexible mission adaptability. It can be easily integrated onto vehicles, ships, or fixed installations, offering advanced operational versatility for modern combat environments.

Engineered for continuous, real-time air surveillance, the radar can detect and track incoming missiles, drones, and low-flying threats over extended ranges. It also features seamless data-sharing capability with command-and-control (C2) networks, ensuring enhanced situational awareness and faster response times during complex air defense missions.
