The US Navy’s iconic MK 38 close-in weapon system is undergoing its fourth major evolution, marking its first caliber upgrade in more than 30 years.
The new MK 38 MOD 4 replaces the legacy 25mm cannon with Northrop Grumman’s Bushmaster II 30mm gun, introducing air-burst ammunition to the naval defense system.
Enhanced EO/IR sensors and a modernized operator console further refine targeting capabilities, turning the platform into a smarter, more responsive weapon against emerging threats.
