The United States Navy has issued a request for proposals for a Vessel Construction Manager (VCM) to oversee production of the US Marine Corps’ Medium Landing Ship (LSM), with contract award expected in 2026. The commercial-style management model will place the prime contractor in charge of subcontractors, including Bollinger Shipyards and Fincantieri Marinette Marine. The LSM is based on the LST-100 design from Damen Group. Up to 35 vessels are planned, each 100 meters long with a 500-ton payload capacity and range of 3,400 nautical miles.
