South Korea is moving forward with a revised agreement to transfer a prototype of the KF-21 Boramae to Indonesia as part of efforts to resolve financial disputes in their joint development program. The deal, valued at approximately $406 million, includes a single-seat prototype and adjusted development contributions. Originally launched in 2015, the KF-21 program represents South Korea’s first domestically developed supersonic fighter, intended to replace aging F-4 and F-5 fleets. Indonesia had initially committed to funding 20% of the program but reduced its contribution following financial constraints, leading to renegotiations. Despite these challenges, the program has progressed steadily, with prototypes undergoing testing and mass production already underway. The first production model was unveiled in 2026, with operational deployment expected soon. The agreement also maintains defense cooperation between the two nations, with potential future exports and joint projects still under consideration.
