Although several regional actors have denied involvement, Egyptian officials have deliberately avoided assigning responsibility, urging restraint and discouraging speculation. Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has engaged neighboring countries in diplomatic discussions promoting de-escalation and peaceful conflict resolution.The affected vessels included the US-owned Energos Winter storage and regasification ship and the GasLog Salem tanker. Authorities quickly separated and towed both vessels away from the port to reduce the risk of a major explosion. While one vessel remained structurally intact and the other sustained limited damage, gas deliveries into Egypt’s domestic network continued. Egypt has activated emergency gas supplies through arrangements with Jordan while confirming that Damietta Port remains fully operational and commercial shipping has not been disrupted. Given the strategic importance of Egypt’s Mediterranean coastline and the Suez Canal to global maritime trade, maintaining uninterrupted port operations remains a national priority as investigations continue.
