BAE Systems has showcased its new extra-large autonomous underwater vehicle (XLAUV), named Herne. Designed for tasks like underwater infrastructure protection, submarine warfare support, and covert intelligence gathering, the Herne runs on the firm’s Nautomate control system. Built in collaboration with Canada’s Cellula Robotics, the project moved from concept to field testing within just 11 months.
