AeroVironment (AV) has announced a strategic partnership with OpenJAUS to improve interoperability across autonomous and remotely operated systems. The collaboration is designed to streamline field operations, enhance cross-platform communication, and simplify software integration for military and commercial unmanned applications.
The partnership integrates the OpenJAUS development kit directly into AeroVironment’s AV_Halo Command software, a unified control platform for unmanned systems. This enhancement enables the software to communicate using the Joint Architecture for Unmanned Systems (JAUS) protocol — a US Department of Defense-supported standard that ensures seamless communication between different manufacturers and unmanned platforms.
Through this integration, AV_Halo Command will support a broader ecosystem of air, ground, and maritime autonomous systems, enabling operators to manage multiple assets from a single, interoperable interface. The system’s open-architecture design minimizes reliance on proprietary communication protocols, allowing faster mission configuration and system upgrades.
According to AeroVironment, the move reflects its commitment to open standards and system flexibility, providing military and defense users with more adaptive and scalable unmanned solutions. The integration also positions AeroVironment as a leader in multi-domain interoperability, a growing priority in the era of networked and collaborative autonomous operations.
