The British Army has deployed the Weevil, a remote-controlled engineering robot developed by the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) and Pearson Engineering Ltd, to advance the clearance of mines and explosives. Mounted on a military vehicle, the Weevil excavates and pushes hazards aside, paving secure lanes for troops and vehicles.
This innovation seeks to reduce task times and operational risks, enabling faster and safer mobility for forces operating in heavily mined or contested areas, and reflecting the ongoing transition toward robot-assisted combat engineering.
